Bearded Collie Rescue Information: The Bearded Collie, or Beardie, as they are affectionately nicknamed, is a medium sized, happy pooch. Beardies are wonderful for households with children. Bearded Collies do not make good guard dogs. Beardies respond well to training but they have a mind of their own. Bearded Collies are very sociable and need to be with people. Beardies are natural herders who don't mind various weather conditions. They make great outside dogs and are best suited to farms or homes with a good sized yard.

Bearded Collie Trivia: The word Collie, or coalie, is a Scottish term for dogs that herd black faced, or coal-colored sheep. Bearded Collies are also known as Bouncing Beardies because of their tendency to jump up and down to keep sight of particular sheep. Bearded Collies are descendents of Polish sheepdogs brought to Scotland. The very first Bearded Collie was named Jeannie of Bothkennar. Bearded Collies have a high incidence of Addison's disease.
