The word Collie, or coalie, is a Scottish term for dogs that herd black faced, or coal-colored sheep. Bearded Collies are also known as Bouncing Beardies because of their tendency to jump up and down to keep sight of particular sheep. Bearded Collies are descendents of Polish sheepdogs brought to Scotland. The very first Bearded Collie was named Jeannie of Bothkennar. Bearded Collies have a high incidence of Addison's disease.
